When Learning and Passions Collide

I think we can all agree that one of our goals when our students leave school is that they will have learned how to learn. I personally believe that the easiest way for anyone to learn this important skill, is to learn something they are completely passionate about. This got me to thinking… what have I recently taught myself that isn’t directly linked to education?

I will never forget the day that I found out I was pregnant with twins (Valentine’s day – February 14th, 2014). The rush of emotions went from one extreme to the next. I knew that I had a lot of planning to do in order to be able to survive having two newborn babies along with a 20 month old and a 4 year old. I had already started dabbing into babywearing with my first two, but knew that now, I had to step up my game. Along came a lot of research, You Tube tutorials, buying different wraps, ring slings, and structured carriers, finding support on social media, and lots and lots of practice with teddy bears. By the time my babies were born, I was ready to concur the world, with my two little squishes attached to me!

I’d love to hear what passions of yours have collided with learning!

The last time I learned something new not connected to education would have been Snapchat. I’m still learning and now have turned it into something connected to education because that is my passion.

I’m not sure this fits the bill but I’ve been practicing yoga for several months. It started because I realized how inflexible I was and also needed some kind of exercise that would promote well-being beyond calorie burning. I read about it, bought an app with tutorials, talked with friend and family who practice, and now I’m loving it. Such grace and beauty and strength rolled into one peaceful workout.
