You. Are. Worthy.

Sometimes, life knocks me down. I know I’m not alone in this, it happens to everyone. For me, it usually happens when stress builds up and then the tiniest thing will happen that will make me spill over. This happens in somewhat of a pattern and some spills are bigger than others, leaving me feeling blue for a longer period of time, and sometimes I bounce back quickly! There are so many factors that play into this roller coaster called life and it’s the highs and lows that make the ride worth it.

I am super thankful to be surrounded by amazing family and friends who are constantly supporting me and reminding me of my worth, even when I don’t see it myself. I always have more than one person to turn to and can count on them to lift me up when I need them most. I’m also a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and this weekend alone, two very specific things happened to me (separate from the uplifting conversations I had with my support system) to remind me of my worth when I was doubting myself.

First, I stumbled across this post by Kara Knollmeyer (you really need to take the time to read it), and I knew after having read it that I was meant to read it in that exact moment.

“I am here to remind you that you are… Just as talented, just as hard working, just as creative and just as brilliant as anyone and everyone else. You are infinitely WORTHY.”

This post touched my soul and while Kara made excellent points that I truly agree with, what struck me most was how educators refer to themselves as “less than” because they don’t value their worth – eyes opened! I am not alone, but it doesn’t make it right. We are worthy. I am worthy. You are worthy.

Second, yesterday during class, my students and I were talking about something and the movie “Trolls” came up. I told them that I hadn’t yet seen the movie and they told me I just had to watch it and “it’s on Netflix!”. Oh, I am so glad I took their advice and watched this movie with my boys this afternoon – it, too, was exactly what I needed in that moment. When the song “True Colors” came on (and don’t get me started on the amazing snuggles I got from my youngest during this song- a very rare moment which also happened exactly when I needed it), I felt a huge lump in my throat – even though I know that this song has been around for ages. But this song, this version, at this exact moment, within the context of the movie, moved me to tears. Go ahead and close your eyes and really listen to the song, hear the message, and feel its impact touch your soul. We are enough. I am enough. You are enough.

If I need to be reminded of my own worth from time to time, surely I am not the only one. So, hear my words, believe my words, and repeat them to yourself… You. Are. Worthy.

You

Are

Worthy

Teaching is so challenging and it takes so much out of us, but it also adds something. I think it’s hard sometimes to find the balance and when I don’t it’s easy to get into a funk! Thank you for sharing your inspiring journey!

I think you make a great point about the power of having those people in your life who can lift you up. Sometimes it takes that outside perspective to recharge us, boost our spirits or show us how far we have come.

Thanks, Joseph! Thad support system is so important! We can’t do it alone!
